This trip was last minute, and after getting all that can fit in one carry one. that is my moto only one carry on bag. I cant stand checking in, and I cant stand waiting for my bags. so pack a bag with underwear that you can wash and socks etc . Greece is another vital trip destination, while the strutures are not as preserved as they are in Italy, they are still clear in meaning. With that said, I am providing a scaled down blog of the events, but a major highlight of th trip was viewing the Antikythera mechanism, the photos are below of what looks like clogs from a clock. this device over 2000 years old was a computing machine, and was only found in the begining of the 20th century, and those studing it thought it was modern, not ancient. These small discoveries point to the past that we know so little about, and only find tiny hints along the way. The countless destruction of writings, and machines that might have changed the course of history. Now with that said our hosts at Megera had a pig on a spit. Not so much a fan of pig, but a mecanical spit is something to admire.
I consider myself a student of history, and visiting Rome and Italy is a treasure of history. The rise and fall of the Roman Empire, is so complex, the impact to our society, and its ramifications. The creation of a religion out of a people that were second class citizens into one that eventually modified the empire. But then there is the feeling of holding on, and how even though Italy today is a substantive entity, its glory is in ruins, and there is a longing to reach out to it.
Driving was a pleasure, I dont know what everyone bitches about, I drove during the day, at night, and I enjoyed being able to skirt lanes. And napoli was also so overrated in terms of driving. not a problem, although on the way back to Rome one evening before our flight, I made a wrong driving decision, and ended up in the north of rome. So without a map, i figured out how to get to the hotel, but had the pleasure of driving throught the redlight strip, which was rather surreal considering the type of red light district that used to exist on the west side in nyc.
